Join us for this this self-scripting class, participants will explore and theatricalize a story from their own life. Exercises will invite self-reflection, and provide an artistic framework for sharing stories of oppression or inclusion. The program will incorporate small group and partner work, as well as collective feedback sessions, developing writing chops, peer work, and artistic response skills. We will also touch on basic acting concepts, so students feel able to step into the “character” of themselves. Each session will end with an opportunity for participants to share their stories with the group in the form of a reading or short performance.
This event is affiliated with Tacoma Reads 2020. Embracing your story gives you power over your own narrative. The titles selected for our community read this year feature personal narratives centered around immigration and the immigrant experience.
