FREE and open to the public. In conjunction with UWT/SIAS Community Book Project, join us for a discussion about Esi Edugyan’s award-winning novel Washington Black and Black History Month. UWT Senior Lecturer in History Libi Sundermann, PhD, explores how the enslaved protagonist of Washington Black reflects the real-life contributions enslaved peoples made to knowledge and advances claimed by European scientists in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The SIAS Community Book Project is sponsored by an ITaSC grant.
