Friday Forum: Institutional Racism and Urban Planning

January 25, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Race, ethnicity, gender, and income impact how people live and move through cities. Tacoma, like many places, has a racist and exclusionary past that influences transportation and land use policy for all. Learn about the ways history has shaped our city and the radical ways we can change it at Downtown On the Go’s first Friday Forum of 2019.

In the 9th year of the Friday Forum Series, Downtown On the Go is taking you back to class. Review the fundamental elements of transportation and explore the connections between how our cities are built and your favorite subjects in school. Each forum includes a lesson related to Tacoma’s past, present, and future.

On Jan. 25, 2019 from Noon – 1 p.m., Tanisha Jumper, Director of Media & Communications at the City of Tacoma, will moderate a discussion with Jacques Colon, Tacoma 2025, and Alex Mather, Pierce Transit, in the Pantages Theater Lobby.
