Food & Tacoma’s Eastside
March 22, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Food is an everyday part of our lives (usually at least three times each day!). With our time chewing away clocking in at 80 minutes a day for the average American, it’s easy to make the case that it’s an important use of our time. But, do we (and can we) always make the most of it for our health?
From our favorite food traditions to our grab-and-go breakfast habits, all of our food choices come from somewhere. They’re shaped by our environment, in a broad sense, as well as the decisions we make. What’s available to us, our personal experience, and many other factors shape what we eat and why. And, our well-being tends to reflect this reality.
Like any neighborhood, Eastside experiences an important set of tr…ends that impact community members’ everyday lives. These trends play a role in the big picture outcomes that shape our lives. Did you know that the average Tacoman living on the Eastside has a life expectancy that is 7 years shorter than the average Tacoman living in the North End?
Join us as we explore the facts and figures, introduce an upcoming research project, and discuss the world of food we interact with each day.
We’ll provide substantial healthy snacks and invite you to bring a small dish or snacks that you love! (If you bring food, please be sure to bring a note card with ingredients so others can make safe food choices.)
Children are welcome.
