Ava DuVernay’s documentary 13TH refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.” The documentary provides an in-depth look at the prison system in the United States and how it reveals the country’s history of racial inequality.
A discussion guided by YWCA staff will follow the film.
