Centered on race in the US criminal justice system, the film is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the US Constitution, which outlawed slavery (unless as punishment for a crime). The documentary's director, Ava DuVernay, argues that slavery is being effectively perpetuated through mass incarceration.
Nature and Art Lakewold welcomes Tacoma artist and garden enthusiast Melissa Balch, who will inspire Explorers by helping them look beyond the page (or screen) when creating a piece of art.
