Unique Events Build Community Connections in Pierce County

Filed Under: Vibrant Community - Posted @ 12:52pm

We believe great things happen when people gather together, so we’re excited to see so many local organizations using the GTCF Community Calendar to share ways for people to connect in Pierce County.  Looking at this upcoming month and into the Summer we noticed a couple organizations, Harbor Wild Watch and Exceptional Families Network, who are leading the way in creating a variety of unique opportunities for community to come together.

Harbor Wild Watch

SCUBA excursions, an adult science social series, and guided low tide walks at beaches around the region are just a few of the dozens of environmental education opportunities Harbor Wild Watch is hosting, all aimed at inspiring stewardship of Puget Sound.  Many of Harbor Wild Watch’s events are free, and all the beach walks are family-friendly.  Harbor Wild Watch also invites community members to join them for beach monitoring research events which help them collect meaningful data about our local beaches, estuaries and creeks.

Exceptional Families Network

Every year, Exceptional Families Network hosts over 450 activities, events, and workshops for special needs families and their children.  Events they’ve shared on our calendar include the Miss Exceptional Pageant, Family Movie Nights, Kids Yoga, and Dungeons & Dragons Game Nights.  In June, Exceptional Families will be kicking off their Reading Mania Book Club and offering an opportunity for anyone in need to receive FREE basic healthcare through the Mom & Me Mobile Clinic.

Looking to promote your community event? We invite local nonprofits, organizations, and individuals to help us keep the Community Calendar up to date by posting their own events to the calendar.  To begin posting you’ll need to create an account

Once you’ve created an account, you will be able log in and post your events to the Community Calendar at any time.  Submissions will be reviewed by GTCF staff and shared on the calendar once they are approved.  We usually get them up within 24 hours.

If you have any questions, or need help getting your account set up please feel free to call us at (253) 383-5622 or email Joe Hunich
