Tacoma Tree Foundation: Taha Ebrahimi – Street Trees of Seattle

August 3 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

During the 2020 pandemic, Taha Ebrahimi took to the streets and went on long walks, which inspired her to map the over 730 different kinds of street trees that compose Seattle’s urban canopy. Street Trees of Seattle is the result of the passion for trees that grew with each walk, and is based on her mapping project and data made available in 2020 by the Seattle Department of Transportation’s Urban Forestry team.

The book is an attempt to show us how trees, and their urban livelihood, “represent a moment in time” in a city. Ebrahimi reminds us of the benefits of trees, their invaluable company on walks and everyday life, and on how their fragility and resilience requires our attention and care.

Join us for a conversation with Ebrahimi at our favorite local bookstore!

Taha Ebrahimi is the author of Street Trees of Seattle: An Illustrated Walking Guide (Sasquatch Books, 2024). Named “Seattle’s Coolest Street Tree Expert” by The Stranger, Taha’s writing has appeared in Creative Nonfiction, Crosscut, The Seattle Times, and numerous anthologies. She is also the recipient of awards from the Pacific Northwest Writers’ Association, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, and the Thomas J. Watson Foundation. She serves as a member of the council for Historic Seattle as well as the board for the Cal Anderson Park Alliance.
